My son was born a month before my due date. He weighed 4 Ibs. and 13 oz. We only bought two outfits and he grow out of it very fast. I was glad we did not buy more than that because it would have been a waste of money. Now my son is 6 months old weighs 19 Ibs. and is 27" long.

Congrats on the new baby.

i had premature twins (4.15 and 5 pounds) my daughter wore DOLL baby clothes for a month (they dont make cute boy doll clothes)...i had a few outfits that were "preemie" for going out or pictures. try resale shops first, and garage sales. true most babies dont wear them long and are usually in good shape. 10 years ago i couldnt find preemie diapers anywhere and we just made do with what there was. we couldnt even find the clothes in normal stores, my aunt sent me preemie outfits from the "fancy" stores in a BIG city. Do what you feel is right and what you want to do. having twins i received LOTSA advice, some you listen to others you forget. always trust your gut. just curious? why are inducing at 36 weeks? medical concerns?

Well it depends do you have extra money to waste? If you are tight on money then, i'd say no. You could try freecycle.com or craigslist.com and ask for preemie clothes. I had two preemie births, first one I just had newborn clothing, she swam in them for a week and then really growed quickly, so i'm glad i didn't have the preemie clothing. The second was different since she was a micropreemie, i did have some preemie clothing for her. Also newborn gowns are great. If the sleeves are too long, just roll them up! As for the diapers, you'll be in the hospital anyways, so they'll provide the diapers. When you get discharge you'll know what size your baby is by then. I don't think i'd worry about preemie diapers now, get some newborn sized ones. They'll have the preemie ones in the hospital at least and if your baby still needs them upon discharge, just swing by a store on way home and have husband pick them up. Or you can try the freecycle, craigslist option also if you are strapped for cash.

I would say get some. Our youngest was a premmie unexpected and we had to rush out to get some premmie baby clothes and smaller nappies as everything was absolutely huge. Even the premmie stuff was a bit big but a lot better for you and them. Pampers do a Micro nappy (we didn't realise they did these until we had to ask) but only seem available in the larger Boots stores but I would get a bit of a stock.

Hope all goes well.

Well i would buy the right size to fit him at the time, if you buy 'normal' sized clothes and diapers they will swamp him. I would however wait and see as i too had to have extra scans as they told me my 1st daughter would be a low birth weight around the 5lbs mark also, and she turned out to be 6lb 3oz! which is not that small!

Good luck

My first baby was 6lb 15oz and he needed premature baby clothes for the first 3 minths as he was just too dinky for newborn. Get a couple of things then if you feel he is just too small to get newborn still, get a few more.

I think one or two sets of premie onesies wont hurt. Yes they grow up too soon, but i guess being born at 5lbs he may use it atleast till he is 7lbs. My baby was 6.12lbs and wore them till he was 7-7.5lbs but he still fits perfectly in his newborn clothes now when he is nearly 10lbs and 10weeks old.

As for diapers you should buy the onbes for premie for atleast the first week or so, try the small packs as you will get a better idea that way. We ran out of a whole bag of 56 diapers on the third day of our baby's birth. : )

If you can, buy a couple. And keep them - my daughters loved their big dolls and I spent a fortune on doll's clothes!
