gerber always quits making anything worth using in the cloth diaper dept

last year they had a DSQ diaper (at target) that was very good for a store bought diaper - they quit making - it was a marketing decision (i called to complain)

i used infant sizes that i found on craigslist - they were very good, bulky some (6lb newborn) but i can still use them at 6 mos (smaller but adequate)

i also found some bleached premiums on craigslist that were REALLY bulky on an infant - i did not start using those until she was 3 mos old and then only occasionally

i bought 12 new organic unbleached prefolds (indian i think) in toddler size they are excellent - more absorbent and softer than the others - i use those at night and on trips those would be entirely too big for an infant

i got by with about 4 dozen infants (2 from craigslist, 1 gerber dsq, and some gerber gauze prefolds my mom bought)

and started using the rest at a later date

once your baby is larger you can till use the smaller ones along with the larger - it depends on how often you want to do laundry as to how many you will need - i CAN go up to a week in emergency and totally busy times with a total of 8 dozen diapers - i do not like to though and try to go no longer than 3 days w/o doing diapers

Preemie 2x6x2 (4-10 lbs.)
Infant 4x8x4 (newborn to 15 lbs.)
Premium 4x8x4 (15-30 lbs.)

Prefolds have different sizes to fit different sizes/weights/ages. The reason why you don't see different sizes for the Gerber prefolds is because they are not there for being proper diapers, they are there for burp rags. If you want to cloth diaper, do not go with Gerber prefolds, they are worthless.

While you can use premiums for a baby, they will be extremely bulky. Personally, I prefer them to be as trim as possible, since they are already pretty bulky to begin with.
